General:
Perennial, tufted herb from fibrous roots; stems erect, 7-20 cm tall.

Leaves:
Basal, nearly circular in cross-section, tapered, lacking cross-walls.

Flowers:
Inflorescence a single, terminal head of 2 to 6 flowers, the flowers lacking bractlets; perianth segments pale brown or whitish, 3.5-5 mm long, pointed, subequal; stamens 6; anthers 0.6-1 mm long, shorter than the filaments; involucral bracts awned, longer than the flowers.

Fruits:
Capsules, cylindrical, pointed, shorter than or equal to the perianth segments, pale; seeds spindle-shaped, about 1.8 mm long, with appendages at each end.
